Classic chocolate cake with crème fraîche

At the beggining of June, I flew back to the UK for my graduation. It was so nice to see my classmates after finishing the course about one year ago. I also took the chance to see my good friend Anna in London, who also just finished her degree. We went to an interesting restaurant in Hackney called Bistrotheque, where we had a great and cheerful night. This was also the first time I had chocolate cake with crème fraîche.

The combination sounds strange and the crème fraîche on top of the cake looks like whipped cream at first sight. But the sourish crème fraîche and the sweet cake are a tasty combination. Not everybody would like it I guess but you should definitely try and see for yourself!

What you need:

  • 200g wheat flour
  • 200g sugar
  • 150g cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 50ml milk
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower oil
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
  • crème fraîche
  • Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 180°C
  • Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl
  • Mix with a blender until smooth
  • Fill the cake mixture into a baking dish and put it into the oven for about 20 minutes
  • Serve the hot cake with crème fraîche
