Saturday morning Blueberry Datschi

We started the weekend this morning with a sweet little treat: A blueberry Datschi. “Datschi” (pronounced “Dutchie”) is a German word used for a kind of cake. The word is mainly used in the South of Germany and it is used in different combinations, also with potatoes for example, so there is no real translation.

Last weekend we also had something sweet for breakfast: pancakes with caramelised peaches. Sometimes I like to make something special for breakfast on weekends.

I always ask myself how some people can eat pancakes, muffins or other heavy sweet stuff for breakfast every day. I find that very unhealthy and I would feel super stuffed. But I also find it very interesting how there is a typical breakfast tradition in every country. Me, for example, I really need good Germany dark bread for breakfast. When I was working in China it was quite difficult to get hold of something like that, so I had to have toast, white bread or cornflakes instead. But it was ok for some time. I also enjoy Asian breakfast stuff.

I think the biggest breakfast I ever had was when me and Philipp were on a US road trip some years ago and we stopped for breakfast at a casino near Las Vegas. Food is always cheap and opulent in Casinos as they want to make you gamble.

We had a mountain of pancakes, frech toast and a lot of other sweet stuff. I wanted to take a nap afterwards.

What was your most memorable breakfast experience?
